hotel recommendation

Have 2 days in Portland. Where would most trip advisors suggest is the best place to stay? Our budget is around $150-$200 per night. Would like breakfast included. We want to see the city and Rose and/or Japanese gardens if anything is in bloom in late September. We like coffee sandwich places, books stores and quaint shops to explore. Love architecture and interesting buildings too.

You may want to check out the Benson, we stayed there for under $200 in a Jr. Suite. If you book under the POVA website, parking and breakfast is included with your stay. We walked over to the Bijou Cafe for breakfast, really yummy Oyster Hash here. Enjoy Portland! :)

The Hotel Modera is the latest ';darling'; in Portland. While I have not stayed there, many of my wine suppliers have. So far, they are all giving it rave reviews.

By the way, as far as bookstores, you are coming to the mecca of bookstores. We have Powells!

http://www.powells.com/ You could spend the entire two days there and still not see it all! LOL!

Will you have a car while here, or do you want to walk/use our transit system?

If you have a car, I recommend a couple of coffee/sandwich places. Both have coffees, food and wine.

Flying Cat Coffee on SE 30th %26amp; Division

My favorite is the Embassy Suites Downtown. Great building, elegant. Pool, exercize room, breakfast part of the deal. Easy access by walking or public transportation to most places in Portland. Suggest visiting downtown, Washington Park and The Pearl. Coffee, book stores and qauint shops abound in the Pearl. Check out Powell Books for the bookstore to end all bookstores Have fun and welcome to Portland!

Here is a list of hotels and their websites..

At the Monaco they have complimentary coffee and at night there is wine ... not sure if any comp a full breakfast.

But there are so many great bakeries and breakfast places..

The Japanese Gardens are spectacular in late Sept .. I love them all year round but when the maples start to change colors .. sigh .. even on a rainy day , the Japanese Gardens are wonderful.

You would enjoy walking around the Pearl District, old warehouses converted into galleries, boutiques, shops and apartment buildings and restaurants.

Go to Powells books.

Go to the Pearl Bakery ..

The NW neighborhood, NW 19th, 21 and 23rd .. and Couch and that area, Arts and Crafts homes as well as Victorian gingerbread .. and a nice little park here and there..

You might like Fullers on NW9th for breakfast .. old time breakfast and a big favorite on weekend mornings.. if the weather is good, you can have breakfast outside.

Enjoy your trip, Portland is a great town !

Glisan ( not Couch) and NW 19th is around where Couch Park is located.. you might enjoy that area ..

And remember, when in Portland, Couch St is pronounced ';Cooch'; LOL! Of course, locals also say ';Glee-son'; for Glisan, but the Glisan family states that it is actual ';Gli-son'; Ah, pronunciations. ;-)
