We are making our first vacation to the Bend area (staying in Sunriver)for a week. We are interested in finding a lake or lakes that have nice beach areas for young kids to play and nice water access. It would also be a plus if they rented boats or wave runners or something for a diversion. Are there any such lakes within close proximity to Bend? I ask becasue I assume most lakes maybe more ';natural'; and not offer established beach areas and/or motor boat/wave runner rentals. Thanks for the help.
Bend (Sunriver), Oregon Lake Activities
The ones that come to mind are:
Prineville Reservoir (http://www.prinevillereservoirresort.com/)
Crane Prairie Reservoir (http://www.crane-prairie-resort-guides.com/)
Cultus Lake (http://www.cultuslakeresort.com/)
There might also be something at Wikiup but I couldn%26#39;t fine a website for anyone offering rentals in that area. Also keep in mind that Sunriver has a marina so you can rent a canoe for the river. Similar rentals are available if you wish to explore the river in Bend ';proper';.
Hope this helps!

Lake Billy Chinook rents boats:

It%26#39;s about a half hour north of Bend.
Half-Brit you must drive a LOT faster than I do. It takes us a solid hour to get to Billy Chinook from our house in Bend. ;-)
LOL, and here mistletoe says I drive slowly ;-)
Nope, more than likely just a memory lapse . . . if you say it%26#39;s an hour, then that%26#39;s what Therealbb should believe!
Correction, half-Brit! Rather than accuse you of driving slowly, I think I admitted to driving fast. ;-)
Just because no one%26#39;s mentioned it, I%26#39;ll toss out Suttle Lake as a possibility. There are a couple reasonably good beaches accessible from the campgrounds around the lake, and the small marina at The Lodge does rent boats: www.thelodgeatsuttlelake.com/marina.asp . Suttle Lake is probably about an hour from Sunriver, depending on traffic through Sisters.
Are you aware that there are kayak and canoe rentals available in Sunriver? A whitewater rafting trip might be another good ';diversion';.

Of course you are. I%26#39;d know that had I read fiveforefun%26#39;s post carefully (insert blushing-embarrassed emoticon here).
Thanks to all who posted, this really helps. We are aware of the white - water and float trips out of Sunriver and elsewhere. We plan to do both. We will be in Bend for 8 solid days so I figured I would try and find a motorized diversion if possible for one of the days.
Thanks again to all.

When we were visiting my sis in Sunriver we went to Twin Lakes I believe. The kids had a great time. There are so many lakes in the area I could totally be wrong but Twin Lakes looks like the place we went. I know it was west of Sunriver.
