1 day northern'ish coast drive

My husband and I are in the portland area for 2 days: 1 for wine and 1 for driving the coast. We plan to drive south from around CANNON BEACH to TILLAMOOK, then back to our B%26amp;B in Newport.

Any suggestions on ';must see%26#39;s'; or better place to stop or not waste our time?

Thanks~

This is a very pretty drive, spend some time at Cape Lookout State park in the Tillamook area. The Cheese Factory is a fun stop, there is also a cool Air Museum in Tillamook and the Blue Heron cheese and gift shop. Have fun! :)

These websites will give you some info:

As an alternative to cheese factories/shops and air museums, consider:

- Ecola State Park, just north of Cannon Beach;

- Tidepools at the foot of Haystack Rock;

- Hug Point State Park (walk to old roadway cut into the point);

- The walk into Short Sands Beach at Oswald West;

- Cape Meares State Park outside of Tillamook;

- The beach at Oceanside, outside of Tillamook;

- Fern Rock Creek falls on OR 6 between Tillamook and Portland.

Cape Lookout is nice too, but you need to do some hiking to see the best of it. Besides those, I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll find other places you want to stop.

What are your plans for the wine day? Need recs?

';....then back to our B%26amp;B in Newport.';

Ooops! Scratch the Fern Rock Creek Falls suggestion.

Thanks for the great suggestions and websites!! They are really great.

The wineries that we have planned so far are:

Chehalem

Sineann

JK Carriere

Methven Family Vineyards

Bethel Heights

Also I was wrong... Our B%26amp;B is in NEWBERG... not Newport, so we will be traveling on 6.

I also saw horse back riding on the beach in Manzanita, anyone have any experience with that?

I would like to stop for some fresh sea food maybe near TILLAMOOK BAY... any suggestion for that?

Thanks again!

Given that you%26#39;ve picked some relatively unknown (though good) wineries, maybe you already know this, but Sineann and JK Carriere typically don%26#39;t offer tasting except by appointment. And Bethel Heights is a bit of a drive from the others. Also, suggest you add one in the hills northwest of Dundee; something that has killer views, as I%26#39;m not sure any of those you%26#39;ve picked does. Domaine Drouhin would work, as would Archery Summit or Domaine Serene. Just know that you%26#39;ll have to pay for the view, whether in the tasting fee or the bottle price.

There aren%26#39;t many good restaurants around Tillamook, but we%26#39;ve enjoyed a couple nice meals at Roseanna%26#39;s in Oceanside. Might have the best view of any restaurant on the coast.

I often see horses on Cannon Beach, but don%26#39;t know anything about them at Manzanita.

Since you do plan to drive OR 6: http://www.oregonwaterfalls.net/univ.htm .

If you want FRESH seafood around Tillamook Bay, stop at Pacific Seafood in Bay City. Not only can you have a nice meal there, you can also pick up some fresh to take with you! They%26#39;ll even hook you up with a cooler and ice in you need one.

Here%26#39;s the horse info - Northwest Equine Outfitters:

WOW thanks for the very helpful information. These are the best replies I%26#39;ve ever had on TA.

That said... I have another ?

So, if we do stop at a cheese factory, which do you rec? I feel like Tillamook CF is the most common and touristy, but what about Blue Heron or others?

Thanks for the winery suggestions. We are aware that we need reservations for most of these. And we may end up staying closer to our B%26amp;B.

Thanks again!

The Blue Heron is more of a boutique than a cheese factory. It%26#39;s only a couple miles south on hwy 101 from the Tillamook Cheese Factory, so you could do both, but if you feel there is only time for one, Tillamook is the place to stop.
