hotels near airport and public transportation

Hi,

I%26#39;ll be attending a 3 day seminar in Portland in July. The seminar is at the Holiday Inn near the airport on Columbia Blvd. I do not plan on renting a car, but I would like to do and see things in the city.

I have a few questions:

1)If I stay at the Holiday Inn is there public transportation I can take to check out the city? Is it convenient to that hotel? Is it safe?

2)Would I be better off getting a hotel downtown and commuting to the seminar near the airport?

Any advice is welcome!

Thank you!

It looks like the nearest TriMet bus stops about 1/3 mile away from that Holiday Inn (I found this by using http://trimet.org/go/cgi-bin/plantrip.cgi and typing in your hotel address: 8439 NE Columbia Blvd). Busses and light rail are generally safe and reliable but you probably don%26#39;t want to trek to/from the bus stop.

Given that you want to see/do things in Portland, I would recommend a different hotel if it fits your budget. Unfortunately, July is %26#39;high%26#39; season so you%26#39;re catching hotels at their peak rates. If you do opt for a downtown hotel, expect rates at most to be well over $100/nt (though you might luck out on a %26#39;priceline%26#39; type site)...also a one-way cab ride to/from airport area would be around $25-30...

Hope that helps,

Brian

Does the hotel have a shuttle bus to the airport? If so, you could take it there, then ride the lightrail (MAX) into downtown. Trip takes about 35 minutes, cost is a couple of dollars or so.

Just looked it up and yes, the hotel has a free shuttle to the MAX station at the airport:

Ah, you found that before I posted. Yes, the Holiday Inn Airport has a shuttle to the airport, so that would be the best choice.

You may also want to check with the hotel to find out if their shuttle goes downtown. I have no clue if it does, but some airport hotels do that for guests.

Thanks for the information!
