Road trip from Seaside to San Francisco

Hi all!

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip along Highway 101 in August starting in Seaside, OR and ending up in San Francisco! We are camping along the way and would like to stay as close to a beach as possible. We can%26#39;t decide on how long we should take to get there, but here is our tentative itinerary!

Day 1 - Seaside to Beverly Beach

Day 2 - Beverly Beach to Florence

Day 3 - Florence to Brookings

Day 4 - Brookings to somewhere in N. California

DAy 5 - N. California to San Francisco

So does anyone have any ideas where to spend the night in N. California? Also how does each day sound? Did we split it up well?

Please critique it and throw in any suggestions.

Thanks

It would be really nice if you could stay 2 days someplace. But you have spaced this nicely, so I think you could only do it by adding a day.

These look like state parks - you will want to make your reservations very, very soon.

As for California, I%26#39;d suggest you put that on the CA forum.

Hi welcome to TripAdvisor. There is only one coastal State Park that is on the beach, and that is Beachside SP between Waldport and Yachats, but if you are tent camping be aware that some of the tent sites are just a few feet from busy Hwy 101.

Florence campgrounds are nowhere near the ocean :-(

You may be too late for reservations at Oregon SP%26#39;s, particularly on the weekends.

Crescent City, CA has a campground on the beach, but that is too close to your Brookings stop. (Or you could stay in Crescent City instead?) Brookings has a Port-owned RV park with a tent area, that is just a big grassy area (no trees) but is on the beach.

A few miles north of Eureka CA are two Humboldt County Parks with tent camping - Big Lagoon near the beach and Clam Beach right on the beach:

Patrick%26#39;s Point State Park in Trinidad is about a 5 hour drive from SF and may still have sites available. We%26#39;re staying at Prarie Creek Redwoods in Oreck. It%26#39;s also around 5 hours, not on the beach but there is a non reservable campground on the beach there called Gold Bluffs Beach. Both parks have wandering herds of Elk. Make your reservations soon! There%26#39;s a beautiful hike at Gold Bluffs Beach called Fern Canyon.
