I just booked the Phoenix Inn for a night this August. After the mixed reviews on Tripadvisor I don%26#39;t know what to think. It was recently remodeled but is it nice (as far as hotels in Eugene go)? Also, should I worry about my SUV being broken into in that area (and parking lot) or no more so than any other place?
It%26#39;s really too late for me to do anything about it so I will be there for better or worse... which will it be?
Phoenix Inn and Suites - should I worry?
The Phoenix Inn, as far as I know, is still one of the finer properties in an area with lots of motels. I know people who prefer it to the HIlton downtown.
The parking area is well lit and I don%26#39;t think your car will be in any more danger than anywhere else in town. Try not to leave any valuables in it. In fact, whether in town or at a trailhead, you%26#39;re well advised to never leave anything visible in the car. This can be difficult in an SUV or hatchback unless you can cover it effectively. Taking everything to your room every night is a hassle, I realize.
As a quality location next to the campus, the Phoenix Inn and the nearby motels get lots of guests throughout the year. I wouldn%26#39;t hesitate to stay there. It%26#39;s a great location for walking to the campus, downtown, Sacred Heart or the courthouses. Your only complaint might be the train whistles during the night, but they can be heard throughout the city.
Phoenix Inn and Suites - should I worry?
Thanks very much for your reply, I%26#39;m relieved! I%26#39;m good about clearing out the car, and will remember to be extra diligent.
Cheers.
We stayed at the Phoenix Inn about two years ago and it was fine. My review is on page 3 of the reviews.
Phoenix Inns in general are quite nice places and we have stayed at a number of them, and several times at a couple of them. I was curious about the reviews after I read your comments. So I read them all.
I do notice one thing - the very poor comments are all from ';one-off'; posters. Those are people who joined TA, made one review and never contributed anything again. Those one reviews are *always* terrible or wonderful, never anything in-between.
To many seasoned TA members, the ';one-offs'; are a red flag! They could be disgruntled former employees, ex-spouses, rival hotel employees . . . unfortunately, some people are simply not honest :-(
I highly question that the hotel would not assist in filing a police report (or in any way) when *four* rental cars had been broken into and burglarized at one time.
The only suggestion I would make is if you are a light sleeper, call a couple of weeks ahead and try to reserve a room at the back of the building, away from the train noise.
I%26#39;ve stayed there twice b4 early flights out of EUG, and though it%26#39;s not as nice (or new) as the Phoenix North in Salem, it was very comfortable. An added bonus (for me anyway) is the Original Pancake House is right next door!!!!!
I am in Eugene on business once a month and have stayed at the Phoenix Inn a bunch of times. My opinion is that it is the best place in town to stay, other than maybe the Excelsior Inn. And, yes, the Pancake House is nearby, but there is certainly no reason to go looking for breakfast, as the complimentary breakfast at the Phoenix Inn is one of the reasons to stay there. Waffles, fruit, sausage, sometimes even biscuits and gravy. I have never had issues with my car and sometimes it has been full of visible things.
