Coming to Oregon in August

We have never been to Oregon and have a 10 trip scheduled for late August. Accommodations are already arranged for Breitenbush and Eugene (to visit friends) for the latter part of the trip so it is the first 4 1/2 days August 22-26 that I am trying to figure out. We arrive around 9 pm from the east coast into Portland. Is it too much to drive to Rainier and spend a day then head to the coast? Better to spend all the time on the coast? Can we base in Lincoln City where I have a coastal cottage arranged for 2 or 3 nights depending on the itinerary and travel north and south on mini day trips? We mostly want to experience the wonderful scenery and be in nature.

Where might we stay outside Portland or even in the city the first night?

Thank you for any help you can give us.

Alice, our first trip to Portland was when we were living in Jax Florida and ran away from the hurricanes .. spent 2 weeks in August and decided to move there :)

Rainier is in Washington.. you want to drive there?

Here is a list of hotels in the city .. book as soon as you can, that is peak tourist time ..

Arriving at 9:00 pm I%26#39;d stay out near the airport that first night, especially since you%26#39;ll then be leaving the city. There are many hotels there, it just depends on what you are looking for.

If you have lodging reserved in Lincoln City I%26#39;d just go for that. However, be aware that it is a congested, very very busy city.

Agree with Scarlett...Are you talking Mt. Rainier in Washington, or the little town in Oregon on the way to Astoria?????

If you are interested in visiting a mountain, and natural scenery, you might want to consider a day trip from Portland to Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge.

If you are go with the beach house in Lincoln City, keep in mind, that traffic can get quite congested trying to get through Lincoln City in the summer time, especially on the weekends. There isn%26#39;t a whole lot to see there, you will have to go either north or south for the real scenery. I will leave the specific advice on that up to the coast experts.
