We will be in Portland from June 29, 2009-July 5,2009 with our 5 month old baby. Any suggestions for activities, food, etc.? Should we rent a car?
Portland with Baby
LOL. Just posed almost the same question 15 minutes later! Hope we get some good answers....
Portland with Baby
The portland children%26#39;s museum has an under 2 section, so there%26#39;s that.
Here%26#39;s a good list of links to various calendars of events for kids and parents coming up in the next months: http://www.portlandatplay.com/whattodo.htm
You%26#39;ll also find a bunch of ideas at the mothering dot commune I%26#39;m sure. I%26#39;ve been banned from that site for life, so I couldn%26#39;t tell you for sure.
I answered the other post just now .. a 5 month old is a breeze ! they just sleep and eat and look around and smile, right? :)
See what I posted on the other thread... it will apply to you too.
You don%26#39;t need a car. Unless you are driving to the Coast or to see the Gorge... then rent one just for the days you need it.
oregone, you have to tell me what you did to get banned for life ... really ... you have to.
Not that exciting of a story. I had set up an account on there pretending to be a young mother in an attempt to make sure my wife wasn%26#39;t saying bad things about me. And I got caught. Kinda creepy of me, in hindsight.
OMSI has a kids area too, but the children%26#39;s museum under 2 area is much better for little little ones. It%26#39;s funny: Before we had a baby, I just kinda automatically assumed that they took care of themselves at about six months. Turns out that%26#39;s not true.
oregone, only you would think of doing something like that :D
Was it hard pretending to be a young mother ? lol
shoshanaz , I hope you get to write a Trip Report after your visit to Portland, it will be fun to hear what you did and how it went, with the 5 month old .. You can even write it from the babys%26#39; perspective ! lol...
A 5 month old is still developing skills to cope with stimuli. I think your baby will be happiest close to you for a sense of security. Check out places that are baby friendly for food and maybe focus on places like the Washington Park Rose Garden or other places where your child can observe for a short period and rest intermittently. A car with a good car seat is probably a good idea, unless you are thinking of staying and visiting in one area only. Then a good stroller.
Have a great visit!
