We will be visiting our son in Portland for the last week of August. We have 3 days booked at the Stephanie Inn.
What will the weather be like?
What is there to do then? Sights? Shoppings? Side trips?
Also where are good food, low cost places near by to eat. Any good local spots. Seafood? How about any Mexican food?
Travel twice a year to Mexico but will be first time to Oregon.
Thanks for any suggestions.
cannon beach in August
Hello, senorbobo,
The weather in August should be great for beach time. Coming from Chicago, you may actually find it a bit cool as we do not get as hot, nor as humid as you are used to. Yea!
The coastline is gorgeous, so you will have a great time exploring not only the beach, but also taking a drive south to see some of the scenery. Going north will not do you any good, view wise, as 101 does not run along the water.
Sorry, but I had to laugh about your question of seafood in restaurants. Umm, you will be by the ocean, where the seafood comes from ;-) Trust me, you will be able to enjoy a lot of fresh, local fish and seafood.
As far as Mexican food, I actually have no clue. When I am at the coast, I am not looking for ';ethnic'; food, so I have not paid attention to any Mexican eateries.
There are a lot of sites to see....from the history in Astoria; Ft. Clatsop; the end of the Lewis %26amp; Clark Trail; the Salt Carns (sp) in Seaside; Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach; Ecola State Park; and beyond. Lots to see and do.

I have been to Cannon Beach in August when it was sunny and warm and then there were times when it was foggy and cool .. and we needed sweatshirts.
Look at Weather Underground for Cannon Beach when the time comes and you can guess at how the weather will be.. which I sometimes think is the way the weather men do it ... guessing :)

Cannon Beach is great for shopping, beach combing, walking and eating. South to the wonderful beautiful parks is good, as well as just a short drive down 101 with lots of stops at look-outs for photos and marveling at the beauty of that coastline.

Wherever you go in Portland or the Coast, seafood is all over the menu and imo, always good.
If you want a take out of picnic sort of meal, Ecola Seafood is good... chowder is good at some restaurants, some of the locals who eat in Cannon Beach a lot will have answers.. my favorite place closed :)
I don%26#39;t remember any Mexican restaurants, but then, I would generally be going for seafood while at the Coast :)
Summer , Cannon Beach , does not equal low cost, so you will do well if you keep researching now for some restaurant recommendations.
I bet you fall in love with Oregon ! It is really so very beautiful and that Coastline ! have fun !
.
What do you call ';low cost';? The words ';Cannon Beach and ';low cost'; generally do not go together in one sentence ;-) (Although everybody%26#39;s definition of low cost is different.)
True you will be at the beach, but an astounding amount of the seafood that is served here is not fresh, nor is it local. If in doubt, ask where it came from. Many of the reasonably priced places order it frozen from their standard food suppliers . . .
Tons of ';shoppes'; in Cannon Beach!
Hi, the Stephanie Inn is a gorgeous property! For some really good Mexican food, go to Mazatalan in Seaside, it is about 10 minutes away. This is a full service restaurant. I would also not miss Guadalajara Taco Shop, across from the Rivertide Suites. It is very casual, the fish tacos are heavenly here. For some great seafood, go to Bell Bouy and sample their crab, prawn or shrimp cocktails. Maggie%26#39;s on the Prom has some really good halibut. Norma%26#39;s Ocean Diner in Seaside is also not to miss. Have fun! :)
