1 day trip

We will be in Portland during the middle of July. I have one day, Sunday, the 19th, to carry our party to the coast for a little sightseeing. They have never seen the ocean and they would love to look for shells on a beach. We will be leaving the next day, so I know we don%26#39;t have a lot of time. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Robert

1 day trip

Leave early in the morning, take 26 to the Coast/101 and right there is Cannon Beach. Park in the public lot and spend the day wandering, shell seeking, taking a gazillion photos of Haystack Rock etc and shop and browse the galleries, boutiques, kite shops and have some good food.

You can drive south on 101 and pull off on the look-outs and see those amazing views, at the end of the day, before dark, drive back to Portland. ( Portland to Cannon Beach is about 90 minutes from downtown)..

You can be back in town for dinner.. you will all sleep like babies from all that fresh ocean air :)

Have fun !

I%26#39;d urge you to see, while in Cannon Beach, Ecola State Park and Indian Beach. The entrance to them is at the north end of town. The OR coast is spectacular, and looking for shells might be lower on their priority list once they see this beauty. :)

Go to Cannon Beach. Take Hwy 26 to Hwy 101. Skip the shops (sorry Scarlett!), and make your first stop north of town to Ecola State Park. Then go into town and get out on the sand by Haystack Rock.

Oh, are you driving something large, like a many-passenger bus?

Yes, I will be renting a 12 or 15 passenger van.

Hello and welcome! Cannon Beach is a beautiful area to explore, Haystack Rock and Ecola State Park are not to miss, take the drive back to Indian Beach. Have fun! :)

Okay, the road to Ecola State park is not wonderful, but a 12-15 passenger bus will be fine. There is a fee charged to enter, but I%26#39;m not sure if it%26#39;s per person or per vehicle.

Maybe our State Parks employee poster, dengay, would know?

You might want to contact the Chamber of Commerce about parking in Cannon Beach (assuming you%26#39;re going there). I know there is a lot there, off of the main congested street, but I can%26#39;t remember how to get to the RV parking area, which is probably what you will need. Everything in Cannon Beach is tight and small, and there is no way you%26#39;ll find room to park along the main street
