WE have booked 3 nights in July at the Hotel Modera. I understand the valet parking is pretty expensive. Does anyone know if there is a self-park lot near this hotel?

I only know of the SmartPark parking lots... you can see if one is close to the hotel , using their site map ..

I would pay the $20 to park at the hotel. The closest Smart Park is several blocks away and is $15 a day (with no in and out privileges.)
The $20 at the Modena allows you to come and go.
Smart Park is great for the short term, but not always for overnight stays....even thought that may very well be where you car goes, for the night in some cases.

Not sure if you are planning on going carless while you are here or not. It has been previously recommended to park at the airport in long term parking and then ride MAX downtown. Not sure if that would work for you or not.
There are some surface lots that would be less expensive. I think you would run in to the same security issues as the smart park.
For what it is worth, I do park in the Smart Park everyday, but, I have never left a vehicle overnight. I have never had any problems. I might be hesitant to park there overnight. They do have regular patrols, but that is no guarantee against anything.
Parking for most big city hotels has become so expensive. Seattle, for example--$32 a night!
$20 actually seems somewhat reasonable.

I agree with you, on the daytime use of Smart Park lots. Used one today. However, I would not want to leave my car in one overnight. I have been downtown late at night, only to come back to my car, which is now the only car on that floor....with no security in site.
