Planning a 3-day coastal escapade down the coast. Need help charting out a plan. What I have so far:
- Staying at Cannon Beach
- Day 1: Explore Astoria/Seaside
- Day 2: Ecola
- Day 3: Drive to Florence and do the dunes
Questions:
- Is this reasonable ?
- Can I fit Yachats and/or Newport somewhere ?
- What else am I missing ?
3 day Oregon coast trip
Looks good, you may want to try to fit in some time in Tillamook and Cape Lookout State Park. :)
3 day Oregon coast trip
Cannon Beach to Florence is about a 4 hr drive, without stopping. There is A LOT to see in between!
When you say ';do the dunes';, do you mean see them or go out and play? Because, if you want to play in the sand, Sand Lake, just south of Cape Lookout (south of Tillamook) is a good alternative. Albeit MUCH smaller, the experience of riding/driving is similar. The Oregon Dunes National Recreation area stretches 40+ miles from Florence to North Bend, so you couldn%26#39;t possibly see tham all in one day.
%26lt;Do the Dunes%26gt; Sandlake dunes, just south of Tillamook, as dengay suggests, is much closer and less crowded than Florence, however unless you have your own equipment or want to rent, I don%26#39;t think there is anyplace that offers the Dune Buggy %26#39;bus%26#39; rides that they have in Florence.
Here is a website for a place in Sand Lake that rents quads - www.sandlaketsunamiatvrental.com
There%26#39;s also the huge dune in Pacific City, at the south end of Three Capes Scenic Loop.
If you%26#39;re wanting to fit in sights between Cannon Beach and Florence, I%26#39;d suggest doing most of what you%26#39;ve planned for days 1 %26amp; 2 on the first day. In fact, depending on your interests, I might suggest skipping Seaside altogether. Unless you%26#39;re planning a visit to the Maritime Museum, Astoria won%26#39;t take much time either. So the trip would look something like:
Day 1: Astoria %26amp; Cannon Beach/Ecola area;
Day 2: Drive to Newport - lots of interesting stops along the way;
Day 3: Newport to Florence and dunes.
There%26#39;s no particular reason to stop in Yachats if you%26#39;re not staying there. But between Yachats and Florence.... one of the most scenic stretches of coastline, with Cape Perpetua and Haceta Head as standouts.
