Hello fellow Trip Advisors. I recently posted on the Cannon Beach forums and some folks pointed to me to the Yachats area as a possible place to find what I%26#39;m looking for (a bit of seclusion, rocky beaches, tide pools, lots of nature, less people).
I%26#39;ve been looking through possible accommodations and have a few possibilities. I was very drawn to Ocean Haven (despite a few bad reviews) but they are full up during my travel time (next week--May 31-June 3).
Two other choices I%26#39;m looking at are the See-Vue (recommended by the Ocean Haven folks and many good reviews on TA) and a place called the Oregon House. This latter place only has two reviews here and is more of a retreat center (which actually sounds quite nice). But they do have a room with kitchenette during my travel dates and it is a bit cheaper than the See-Vue.
Anyone visited either place? Any other spots I should consider? I%26#39;m looking for a simple place with a small kitchen where I can self cater. I%26#39;m also waiting to hear back from the Wayside Lodge about availability, but they may be a bit too in town for my tastes. Ideally I%26#39;d like to find a place for less than $100 a night.
Thanks for any thoughts! I can%26#39;t wait to get to the Oregon Coast--it looks so lovely!
tranquil place to stay near Yachats?
I know exactly where they are and a little bit about them.
Oregon House is up on a high hill from the ocean, nestled in lots of trees. There is an ocean view between the trees. The units are down a slight hill from the road, so it%26#39;s pretty secluded and quiet. Not sure about beach access?
The See-Vue is an older small motel-type building. It has a nice view but is much nearer to the highway. There is direct beach access there.
Now, the last time I described the See-Vue to a poster, they misinterpreted my words and got all bent out of shape. So I will simply say it flies the rainbow flag.
I would not call the See-Vue ';secluded';, as there are other buildings in the area (it%26#39;s called ';Ten Mile';) , but the Oregon House definitely is. Both are south of Yachats by several miles.
tranquil place to stay near Yachats?
I stayed at Oregon House in one of the cottages years ago on my first trip to Yachats and really liked it. It was a stormy April night and we enjoyed having a real wood fire and listening to the surf and rain. As I recall there was beach access but I can%26#39;t remember if there was a staircase or a steep path down or what...but it definitely wasn%26#39;t walk onto the beach type access.
It was definitely a bit Velveteen Rabbity even back then (well worn and loved ;-)) so I don%26#39;t know what shape the cottages would be in today or if they%26#39;ve seen any renovation in recent years but otherwise I wouldn%26#39;t hesitate to recommend it.
Hello, I wanted to check back here and thank everyone for their advice last month about my trip the Oregon Coast. I did indeed make it to Yachats and stayed at the Oregon House. I found it to be quite charming and I hope return in the future with my husband. The price was very reasonable and I was able to cook in the small kitchen.
The property itself was very lovely and there was beach access via a steep stairway. It was very private (I was the only one staying there during my visit) and I enjoyed it immensely.
My trip got cut short by one day, so I didn%26#39;t get to see as much in the area, but I enjoyed Cape Perpetua area (where I saw grey whales) and also the Yaquina Headlands Lighthouse area (nice tidepools and harbor seals). The tiny town of Yachats also seemed lovely, although I really only went to the post office (the coffee shop I wanted to hang at was closed on Mondays).
I also took an evening stroll down the ';hobbit trail'; to a beach, but got a little lost finding my way back because the trail was hard to spot from the beach (note to self: always look back at the trail you just came from when entering the beach to find some sort of visual marker and remember that it might be foggy when you are coming back!) It all ended okay though and I was happy to make it back to my home base at the Oregon House.
Thanks again to those who pointed me to the Yachats area.
Ah, I thought that place might work well for you! Thanks for the brief TR and am glad you enjoyed yourself - and found your way back from the beach ;-)
Sounds fun, thanks for reporting back! :)
I%26#39;m so glad to hear you liked it. What was your impression of the upkeep of the buildings/rooms? Since I haven%26#39;t been in a while as noted in my previous post, I%26#39;d be interested to know.
