Highway 101

Hi all!!

Girlfriend and I are going to drive down the west coast in August, and we%26#39;re going to split Oregon up in 2 or 3 nights. It would be best to keep the driving distances between each stop equal!

That being said, does anyone recommend where we should spend each night? We are camping along the way so any suggestions about campsites would be great too!

Thanks!

Hi, are you adding to the previous information?

Highway 101

Hi,

Yes we are...now we arent sure if thats where we should stop each night...so we are wondering if anyone would suggest the best places!!!

Okay, remind us (or me!), are you making the drive from the CAN/US border to Oregon in one day, or stopping somewhere in WA state?

The Oregon coast is about 365 miles long, if that helps in your planning. Some sections of Hwy 101 are inland a bit, and some sections of coastline have limited access. The Dunes stretch for about 40 miles so no ocean views through there, except from the top of dunes, LOL!

Are you tent camping?

The dunes go from Florence south to Coos Bay, sorry.

Hi again!

Ok, we are driving from Vancouver to Seaside in one day, and camping there for the night, and yes, we are tent camping.

So, that being or starting point, we were thinking of doing 2 or 3 nights in Oregon after that. So, what towns do you suggest we stay in so that we can get the most out of the trip?

Thanks again, you seem like you know a lot!!

So, if we are going to spend 3 nights camping AFTER Seaside, where do you recommend? What about 2 nights?

I only ask you because you seem to know the most!

Thanks!

I think your other post said you wanted to be on or very near to the beach? That%26#39;s a little tough in a tent, as there are some private RV parks but not tenting . . . thinking here . . .

In the south, Gold Beach has a fairly nice campground with tent spaces. The tent spaces have some trees and lawn, and are near the beach and river. You could also probably stay in the grassy overflow area with a river view. Scroll down for an aerial photo:

This place in Charleston, near Coos Bay, has tent sites with an ocean view. Call immediately if interested as they are *very* popular:

Waldport has a new park on the river, about a half mile inland, with tenting on a large grassy area right on the edge of the river, no trees though. They don%26#39;t appear to have a website, but here is their phone number:

Slightly inland from Newport there are some RV parks/campgrounds that are on the Yaquina river . . .

Inland a few miles along the Siletz River is Coyote Rock which does have tent camping. It%26#39;s south of Lincoln City a few miles:

There are of course, the State Parks. The only one on the beach is Beachside south of Waldport. Some of the tent sites are very near the busy highway, though. Many posters here like Cape Lookout, which is quite near the ocean I believe. The SP%26#39;s are back in the trees and some are on the east side of Hwy 101.

I can%26#39;t think of any other tenting areas that are on the ocean or a river. I did not realize how few there are :-(

Where are you staying in Seaside?

Forgot about this one. I think they have tent sites. It%26#39;s on the north end of Florence:
