Fourth of July in Sunriver/Bend Area

We will be in Sunriver on the 4th and looking for recommendations on where the best place to celebrate would be (day and night of the 4th)? Because this is a mountain area they might not have fireworks shows? Any input on how to spend a fun-family 4th would be appreciated.

Several years ago we attended a 4th of July fireworks display from Pilot Butte in Bend. I think we parked at local school near the Butte (north side?) and everyone sat out in the soccer field.

Here is one event calendar for Bend for July 4th, but it doesn%26#39;t mention the evening fireworks -

This calendar is for the Central Oregon region and does include the Bend fireworks as well as a Redmond display (view all 3 pages of the calendar-lots of options!).

I would suggest checking a local paper when you get to the area. And remember sunscreen, hats, and water. It was hot when we were there for July 4!

There are shows both at Pilot Butte (in Bend) and at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds (in Redmond).

The great thing about the Bend show is that you can see it from just about anywhere in town. You can find a place to sit at one of the many parks or schools, and people also park at nearby businesses.

Watch for side betting, to guess what time the butte will catch on fire. Always a good time. :-)
