airport to hotel without a carseat?

We%26#39;re going to be in town for a long weekend with our 12 month old. Weren%26#39;t planning to rent a car as we%26#39;re used to walking and public transport.

But how do you get from the airport into town without one? Is there a public transport option? In NYC you don%26#39;t legally need to use a carseat in a cab - is that the case here too? If not, are there cab companies that will bring a carseat, and where do I find one?

Thanks!

We are coming to Portland in July and face the same situation. We planned to take the MAX light rail from the airport into the downtown area.

If our luggage is too much to manage on the train, then one of us will go by taxi to the hotel with all of the luggage, and the other will take our daughter on the MAX with just a diaper bag.

I would not recommend taking a baby in a taxi unrestrained even if permitted under Oregon law.

If the taxi/livery companies can%26#39;t accommodate you, you could always do a one-day car rental (w/car seat), picking up at the airport location and dropping off at the downtown location. Hertz has an office in SW Pine Street and I am sure there are others.

Here is a link to the Oregon Department of Transportation website, and details about the law. I see no such exemption for cabs.

As the previous poster stated, your best bet is to take MAX from the airport to downtown. One plus is the airport is the end of the line, so you can get on and get a good spot with some extra room. I do like the suggestion about the cab if the luggage is too much.

Thanks. Any idea how long the trip is? We tend to pack light so I%26#39;d guess we could handle it.

MAX, the light rail, takes about 35-40 minutes to get into downtown Portland from the airport. Cost is about $2 per person or similar.

Unless you have a really vast amount of luggage, there should be plenty of room.

Fare is $2.30. Ticket machines are just inside the airport outside where you board (west side of the airport terminal). Press the ';all zone'; button when you%26#39;re buying your tickets. Better yet, buy an all-day pass for $4.75.
