My husband(a ';Born-Again-Fisherman'; by religion :-) and I have planned a trip to Oregon to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.
We%26#39;ll be spending two night at the Overleaf Lodge in Yachats, one night at the Steamboat Inn on the Umpqua River, one night at McMenamin%26#39;s Old St.Francis School, one night in Hood River, and a few nights in Portland.
I%26#39;m puzzled as to what to pack. We have heard that it can really be cool on the coast but hot inland. What about the Bend and Hood river areas? We%26#39;re really trying to pack light due to the extra cost of baggage on airlines these days. This is going to be especially challenging since it seems waders, vest and a collapsible fishing rod seem to be ';neccesities';!
Thanks for any tips.
Trip to Oregon in July - What to Wear?

Layers. tees, some warmer things to throw on over lighter things.. luckily Oregon is casual ...
Trip to Oregon in July - What to Wear?
I agree with what scarlett describes, but I%26#39;ll add a windbreaker to top it all off.
You can expect lows along the coast to be in the upper 40%26#39;s to low 50%26#39;s and daytime highs from the low 60%26#39;s to low 70%26#39;s. Two miles inland it could be 15 degrees (or more) warmer!!! That%26#39;s why we recommend layers! If it happens to be really warm inland, the coast will get pretty windy and since it%26#39;s coming off of the 50+/- degree pacific ocean, it can be rather chilly!.
We visited in July last year, and the weather was fantastic! Definitely plan on layers. The coast was quite cool, but we loved the climate of Bend. High of 80 degrees and NO humidity! This was a welcome change from here in the northeast. I was able to wear capris most of the time in Bend, but pants are definitely needed for te coast. Portland will also be warmer.
Thanks everyone! I will add my Gore-Tex windbreaker and a pair or two of slacks to the mix.
Fleece - make it your friend. Lightweight, breathable, good in all kinds of weather, except driving rain. Then throw the windbreaker over it.
So where is he going to fish?
He might take a charter from Newport or Depoe Bay to fish the Pacific, he might try his hand at Steelhead fishing in the North Umpqua River, and he might drop a line in one of the lakes or rivers in the Sisters area. It just depends on what appeals to him at the time.
Sea Bass and Ling Cod were hitting hard out of Newport last week!!! We limited out on the Sea Bass in about 40 minutes and they were all good sized (and I sould add, EXTREMELY tasty).
That%26#39;s great den !
Tweedledum will have a good time fishing !! :0) but Tweedledee, what do you do while he is fishing?
shopping? spa? fishing too?
Tweedledum - I love it.
Shopping, enjoying the beach, chilling in the mountains, watching the windsurfers - never fear, I can always find something to do.
