Good and/or unusual restaurants along Pacific Coast Highway

Hi - I got some helpful advice a few months ago, when I first posted about a trip planned July 5-13, up Highway 101. [I%26#39;ve also downloaded good information from Oregon State sites].

Now, with all the reservations made, at least where the 4 of us (all adults)are staying, I%26#39;m hoping to gather the names of good food - it can be ';road food'; joints, or eateries where the food is great and the prices reasonable.

Thanks, in advance, for your attention, fellow Advisors!!

Bill

it would help if you told us where you are staying so we can plot out some restaurants for you

Yes, which towns?

Good point! the reason I left the places ';blank'; is that we%26#39;re driving up the Coast, and could stop anywhere for a meal.... Nevertheless, we%26#39;re driving from Coos Bay (not stopping there) to Lincoln City and staying there a couple of nights. Then, off to Astoria for 2 nights. So, if I could have recommendations for Lincoln City and Astoria (areas) it;d be great! The other thing is that there are no doubt ';dives'; that aren%26#39;t much to look at but have good/great food, and I was hoping to scout out some of these with my wife and friends. Food isn%26#39;t the main reason for this anticipated trip, but it helps to have the advice and suggestion of people in the know.

Hi, definitely hit the Columbian Cafe in Astoria, we like to sit at the bar and watch the chef cook. I have a review of our time there a few weeks ago. I would also go to the Ship Inn for some amazing fish and chips, you will have river views here. The Bridgewater Bistro is a nice, upscale eatery in Astoria with gorgeous water views. Try to sit out on the deck over the water if the weather is nice.

We also love Fulio%26#39;s for Italian food in downtown Astoria. Silver Salmon Grille is very good, they have a nice selection of salmon entrees, we like the Salmon Supreme here. If you guo to Seaside, don%26#39;t miss Guadalajara Taco Shop for Mexican food and Norma%26#39;s Ocean Diner for some yummy seafood, I love the Crab Melts at Norma%26#39;s. Another cool place in Seaside is the Riverside BBQ, they make the most delicious Pulled Pork sandwiches, they have new owners now, you will have Necanicum River views at Riverside. Goose Hollow in Seaside is also very good for their clam chowder and Reuben sandwiches.

Enjoy your time on the coast! :)

While it is nothing special to look at, I like South Beach Fish Market, just south of the Yaquina Bay bridge in Newport. They have the best fish and chips. Little place that get crowded, but, if it is nice you can sit at the picnic tables outside and watch them boil crab. Kinda fun and different.

Kyllo%26#39;s in Lincoln City is pretty good, and right on the beach. Sambo%26#39;s also has a pretty good breakfast. Then of course, you should probably stop at a Mo%26#39;s just once for a bowl of chowder, a trip to the coast would not be complete without that.

The Seafood Station on hwy 101 in Florence kinda fits your description. It%26#39;s a converted gas station; nothing at all to look at!!! But the food is above average with a good selection of the freshest fare you%26#39;ll find. Check their daily specials on the board outside the front door for the best prices.

Just don%26#39;t judge the book by it%26#39;s cover!!!!!

Thanks, all!! Duly noted and printed out. Now, any ideas about Coos Bay Area, or Brookings up to Florence?

Eagerly awaiting your input.... Bill

There are a couple of pretty good restuarants in Winchester Bay; The Crabby Cafe serves good seafood at a reasonable price and is right on the ';Windy Bay'; harbor. There is also Unger%26#39;s Landing, which is actually a boat floating in the bay! Their food is average but the service is usually real good.

In Coos Bay, we like the Blue Heron Bistro. It%26#39;s just off 101 on a side street and they have pretty good German food. We also like Unger%26#39;s in Winchester Bay and have never had a bad meal there in about a dozen visits. The location is unique.

The *best* fresh fish-n-chips on the entire coast (now there%26#39;s a hot button subject, LOL!) has got to be a place that you wouldn%26#39;t think of . . . Nana%26#39;s Irish Pub in the Nye Beach area of Newport. Wonderful; so is all the other food there! (closed Tues)

A good sandwich shop in Lincoln City is Punk-n-Barrys on the east side of 101 about 16th Street. In Depoe Bay, I have heard from friends that Rip Tide BBQ is very good, but have not yet eaten there:
