We are traveling from the Bay Area to Sunriver, Oregon on Monday. We are thinking of leaving a day early and driving to Grants Pass to do the Jet Boat Tour and then the following day from Grants Pass to Sunriver (by Bend).
The ride from the Bay Area to Grants Pass is about 6 hours and then an additional 2 1/2 from Grants Pass to Sunriver.
Do yu think the Jet Boat Tour is worth the extra 2 hours of travel? How tough is the drive from Grants Pass to Sunriver? Is it steep inclines and such?
Thanks for any input as we are traveling with 3 kids and not sure the extra night hotel, extra 2 hours travel is worth a quick 2 hour jet boat tour?
One Day Stop for Jet Boat Tour
We have done the Quick n Scenic tour sevearl times with the Hellgate Excusrions, it%26#39;s great fun! If you do decide to do it, the Riverside Inn is a nice place to stay with a family, the boat rides leave right from this property. Let us know how it goes! :)
One Day Stop for Jet Boat Tour
I%26#39;m not seeing any route that can get you to Sunriver from Grans Pass in 2 1/2 hours. Everything I see is around 4 hours+ - and yes, over mountains, though not ';tough.';
I%26#39;m going to agree that Grants Pass to Sunriver is at least about 4 hours. But I%26#39;m confused by your statement ';an additional 2 hours';.
You%26#39;re looking at Hwy 62 / 230 / 138 / 97? You do climb up into the mountains to get there, since Sunriver is up in the mountains (sort of). Hwy 62 is not a fast road but is perfectly acceptable. Hwy 97 is a pretty fast two lane road.
Or were you thinking of I-5 to Hwy 138?
Hopefully you%26#39;ll get a response from another poster who has experienced that jet boat tour . . .
I checked both routes that half-Brit mentioned on MapQuest. The Hwy 82/230/138/97 is listed as a 3 1/2 hr trip. Going north to Roseburg and taking Hwys 138/97 is a 4 1/2 hour drive. Either route is acceptable, the roads are good, but are 2 lane mountain roads. There is no pass from Western to Central Oregon that has 4 lanes except for I-84 along the Columbia River at the extreme north end of the state.
I%26#39;ve done the Jet Boat Tour, it%26#39;s a fun trip. We did the Dinner trip. I guess it depends on the ages of your children, if it%26#39;s a really hot day, and if you like getting wet. :-)
Our daughter and family did the regular tour several years ago when the grandkids were about 9 and 10 and had a great time. They also stopped in Roseburg and toured the Wildlife Safari at Winston.
