surrey rentals in seaside

Does anyone know the name of the one behind the pizza hut on 101 and how much it cost or how to reach by phone?

surrey rentals in seaside

Wow, you know more about the surrey rentals in Seaside than I do, and I like visiting Seaside, although I stay in Gerhart. I have to admit that I have never rented a surrey....used to ride in them as my fathers friend had a great house on the Prom and had a surrey that we could use. Ah, memories!

surrey rentals in seaside

I stayed in hotel behind pizza hut and can%26#39;t remember the name of it either.. Old age I guess..lol.. I know the promanade has one but there is also one next to the motel behind pizza hut.. Do you know if the arcade rides will be open like the spinning seat thing and golf next weekend June 7th or 8th?

Hello and welcome, I will be in Seaside all of next week and will check it out for you. I know that they rent the surreys at the bike shop by the 12th Street bridge, also. Maybe this website will help: www.seasideor.com :)

Thank you I will be there sunday june 7th. The one I need is on street behind pizza hut. Also could you send the name of the motel it has a pool and if you go out pizza hut door turn left and go across alley to the motel and the surrey place is next to it or a door away if I remember right. Thank you so much.

Google is great for finding places and you don%26#39;t even have to wait for someone to go!

The street behind the pizza hut, that is on 101 in Seaside, is Holladay. There is a bike rental place on Holladay near Avenue C that rents surreys.

The rides should be open on the weekend, I%26#39;ll find out for sure for you later today when are out and about on the prom. It%26#39;s nice to back on the coast! :)

The motel on Holladay behind the Pizza Hut is called the Mariner. The Wheel Fun rental place is a few doors down from the Mariner.

Syrah,

Are you staying in a Seaside hotel?

We just drove by the hotel after surfing at the cove, why are you staying at The Mariner? What is your lodging budget? There are much nicer placees to stay in Seaside, this is a great time to get some really good rates on hotels. :)

Syrah, which hotel do you like to stay in, in Seaside? You have a ';cottage'; there, right? Perhaps you could tell everyone here about it.....you may find renters for the summer. This is the year when all vacation property owners need to ';toot'; their own horn.

  • Breakfast in Medford

Can anyone recommend a good and inexpensive place for breakfast in Medford? Has anybody stayed at the Marriot Courtyard by the airport? Thank you.

    Breakfast in Medford

Shoot, the good breakfast places in the Medford area that come to mind are in Ashland. ;-) Brothers and Morning Glory have both been recommended to me but we usually stay in a B%26amp;B and don%26#39;t venture out for breaky.

When I visit my Grandpa, he always wants me to take him to Elmer%26#39;s. It%26#39;s not fancy but the service is OK and the food is usually hot. Good place for predictable eggs and pancakes.

I saw that a Black Bear Diner opened recently. If it%26#39;s anything like the one in Bend you get a lot of food, and every bite tastes the same. And it%26#39;s not great. And it%26#39;s slow. But that%26#39;s the one in Bend... maybe the one in Medford is better?

Hope you get some good suggestions.

    Breakfast in Medford

I ate at the Black Bear Diner last year, it was fine. Lots of food, not too expensive but nothing that I remember as very flavorful. They do post the menu on their web page, just google the name and it should show up. Years ago I did have breakfast at a great little place in downtown Jacksonville, I don%26#39;t know the name but it was a little and had the most amazing latkes, someone else may know the name. Your hotel may have breakfast also.

I second Morning Glory in Ashland ... also like the Breadboard (in Ashland) as well.

Solve your problem by staying at the Homewood Suites in Medford instead of the Courtyard at the Airport. We have stayed at both and the breakfast at the Courtyard is quite good, but they do nick you for $10 or so for it. At the Homewood Suites, at least the day we stayed there, the breakfast is better than at the Courtyard: really good potato pancakes, in addition to the usual waffles, eggs, etc. AND, the breakfast is free with your room. Better rooms than the Courtyard, as well.

  • Honeymoon Suggestions

    Good morning,

My fianc茅 and I are thinking of going to Portland for our honeymoon. We get married on August 22nd and the dates were thinking about for the honeymoon are September 4th though the 13th. Is this a good time of year weather wise?

We would like some ideas of things to see in and around Portland. We like to do day trips and usually stay the night in the vicinity or our day trip. Things we would like to see or do are the ocean, wine tours/tasting, brewery tours/tasting, hiking, possible white water rafting or kayaking, and general sight seeing of local interests. Any hotel recommendations would be great as we plan to just kind of roam around the Portland area staying at a new place each night. Nothing too fancy as its more of a sight seeing/adventure type honeymoon.

We did this same type of thing in Denver about a year ago and it was great.

    Thanks You!

    Jason

    Honeymoon Suggestions

Hi, I would go to Cannon Beach and stay at the Stephanie Inn there. We have enjoyed nice stays at The Benson, The Heathman and the Riverplace in Portland. I am on the coast now in Seaside and we are having beautiful weather! www.cannon-beach.net is a nice website for the Cannon Beach area. I would go to their restaurant there also even if you don%26#39;t stay at Stephanie Inn.

I hope you have a great time and congrats! :)

    Honeymoon Suggestions

September, especially early in the month, is usually a great time of year weatherwise. And pretty much everything on your list is within a couple hours of Portland, so could be done in ';day'; trips. But, with nine days, I suggest a point-to-point itinerary to minimize driving.

Maybe start with a few days in Portland, visiting local sights, wine country (45 minutes southwest of the city), Mt. St. Helens (a couple hours north), possibly the Columbia River Gorge (or save that for the point-to-point), and returning each night for dinner. Then, head to the coast, and go south, spending a night or two in a few of the many nice coastal towns. Along the way, there is breath-taking scenery, hiking, tidepools, dune buggy rides, jetboats... If you drive the entire coast, you could dip into northern CA and see some redwoods before turning back north. And, if you did that, Crater Lake becomes an option. The Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, too.

Best white-water river near Portland is probably the White Salmon in WA, but the Deschutes, in central OR is great too, and might fit better into a loop itinerary.

Lots of possibilities here.. But I%26#39;m not sure you could fit them all into a 9-day trip. Maybe you could provide more feedback before we suggest a specific itinerary (any priorities and/or ';must sees/dos? Redwoods of interest? Crater Lake?). Suggest you make plans quickly, especially if they involve popular coastal towns. Labor Day is late this year, so it%26#39;ll still be very busy during most/all of your time here.

A day trip out of Portland that we did when we lived there was to the Columbia Gorge. I was amazed at the beauty.

While driving through the Gorge you could stop in at Mcmenamins winery. We received some wine from some dear friends who went wine tasting there and it was superb.

Well we definitely want to do some wine tasting/tours and brewery tasting/tours. But we also would like to do some walking on the beaches, river adventures, etc.

Yup, the Columbia River Gorge; great for waterfalls and other scenery, hiking, windsurfing, and now in the last several years, winetasting. There are a bunch more wineries there now than just McMenamin%26#39;s, suzie, which is best known as a brewpub. Those guys have turned what was a small brewing operation into quite an empire now.

So... sounds like Crater Lake and redwoods are out? Then how about a loop that looks something like: Portland - Cannon Beach - south to Florence - Bend - Hood River - Portland. That covers beaches, river adventures, a dune buggy ride... And with wineries near Eugene and Hood River, you could taste in those areas, or as a day trip from Portland. Brewpubs are easy; there are great ones in Portland and all along the route.

    Is this closer? ;-)

That sounds pretty good. I know its probably clitche but i would love to see the Goonies house up in Astoria since i grew up with the movie when it was new in the theater :)She is the wine fan and im the beer fan so a mix of both would be great. Im not too familiar with the bigger brewerys in OR as i am with the CO ones since CO is right next door to us we get a lot of their beers in KS.

Yes,the Goonie%26#39;s house is cool, there are some nice places to wine taste in Astoria. The Cellar on 10th, the Flying Dutchman adjacent to the Bridgewater Bistro where we ate last night, Shallon Winery and the Silver Salmon Grille would all be nice places to samnple some good local wines. :)

    you mention the goonies house.

I did a little research a while back (I too have a picture in front of the house!) but and I can%26#39;t find the astoria visitor webpage now. I recall it stated as long as you are respectful you can walk up the little side road and take pictures from the road, the owners don%26#39;t mind. The house is very close to the football/cheer field at the beginning of the movie.

the house is off of Franklin Ave up a little side street (I believe it is 38th or 39th?).

    Bonus: When you drive up Franklin you will see the elementry school in filmed in %26#39;kindergarten cop.%26#39;

It%26#39;s just as easy to start your drive down the coast from Astoria. But, I suggest that, unless your wife is into fruit and berry wines, you pass on Shallon. And I think even syrahgirl would agree that Flying Dutchman isn%26#39;t worth your time if you%26#39;re planning a wine country visit at some other point in the trip.

I%26#39;m not sure I know the bigger breweries in Oregon either. You%26#39;ll see McMenamin%26#39;s all around the Portland area. Widmer is another higher volume place, I think. But mostly it%26#39;s smaller brewpubs like Bridgeport, Rogue Ales, Lucky Lab, Pelican, Deschutes....

Don%26#39;t know if we%26#39;ve answered all your questions.

    Trip Report

Had a quick weekend reunion over Memorial Day Weekend.

Friday night; Wife and I flew into PDX around 8:25pm and took the Red Line to 3rd and Morrison. Jumped off and had a quick dinner at the Rock Bottom Brewery. Not bad for the price and very convenient for MAX riders.

Got back on the Blue Line around 10pm as the fireworks were going off at Waterfront park. So nice of you all to celebrate our arrivel with fireworks...sorry we couldn%26#39;t stick around for the whole show, caught the reflection in the builings. Mom and Dad picked us up at the station in Aloha.

Saturday; Uncle (Dad%26#39;s bro.) and Cousin flew in from Georgia and SC. Visited another uncle at Willamete National Cemetery...It was good. Got a call from an aunt (Dad%26#39;s sis.) while we were all standing at the grave...How cool is that? Visited other family members.

Wife and I checked into Hotel B in Hillsboro. We got it on Priceline for $45 a night and were a bit worried when we read some reviews. Turned out to be quite nice. The staff was professional and the room had been recently remodeled with tile floors and granite countertops in the bath and new furnishings, carpet etc. and one of the most comfortable beds I%26#39;ve ever slept in. The halls were still undergoing rehab but I was a good boy and didn%26#39;t have to spend too much time out there.

Sunday; Skipped church and took the Cousin and Uncle et al. to the Coast. Weather was perfect. Stopped at Boiler Bay. Had dinner at Tidal Raves in Depoe Bay. Very good food and great scenery. Walked and shopped in Depoe Bay and took lots of pic%26#39;s. Saw some seals..cousin%26#39;s trip was complete.

Monday; Took the gang to Multnomah Falls. Everyone else decided to go there too. Absolute zoo!! never have I seen that many people at the falls. Met my brother and a couple nephews there and we all had lunch at the Lodge. Food was good, ambience great, prices not too bad.

Got dropped off Downtown and poked around a few shops then got a tour of the Governor Hotel. Very nice hotel and the front desk help was extremely nice, professional, and knowledgeable about their property. Jumped back on the Red Line and caught our 8:55pm flight home.

Love your MAX... wish our RT could get their act together.

I sometimes miss my %26#39;hometown%26#39;...I just don%26#39;t miss the rain.

    Trip Report

Happy to hear that you had a great time.

As for the rain, we don%26#39;t get enough, in my opinion. This past week, with the heat and humidity has been horrid. Ugh! I love winter, where is winter????

    Trip Report

Thanks for the great trip report. I can attest for the crowds in the gorge over Memorial Day weekend. I was there Saturday of that weekend and the crowds weren%26#39;t any better. However, the situation at many of the lesser known falls was much better.

Wineaux: After the past winter, that is a dirty word in my book. I have been in Seattle all week and it has been very warm up here as well. However, when I think back to December of last year, I am happy to have it!

Sounds really fun, we were in Seattle this past weekend and had so much fun, it%26#39;s such a great city. We are now on the Oregon Coast in Seaside for awhile, the weather has been beautiful here, we are loving our time being close to the beautiful ocean.

Thanks for reporting back on your travels! :)

    Pacific City or Newport

Hi, I%26#39;ll be traveling to Oregon later this year and have never been to the state. We want to spend two nights on the coast. I was looking online and see some interesting things about Newport and Pacific City. Looking for advice on where to stay for two nights.

I will be traveling with my spouse, both of us in our early 30s. We enjoy shopping at mom and pop unique shops (not touristy t-shirt stores), good food (seafood especially), good wine/beer, love pubs and wineries. And great scenery and walking/hiking trails.

Please share your thoughts on where to go. If there is another town you recommend, please share.

    Pacific City or Newport

Hi, we love spending time on the northern coast, we are in Seaside right now which is about ten minutes from Cannon Beach. This is our favorite area of the coast. You will find lots of yummy seafood here (we had a wonderful Copper River salmon dish last night at the Wayfarer) the scenery is beautiful if you go to Astoria, about a 20 minute drive from Seaside you will find some cool antique shops and will have beautiful views of the Columbia River.

What is your budget for lodging? The Cannery Pier Hotel is Astoria is gorgeous, they have a website if you want to check them out. There is also the Hotel Elliott in downtown Astoria which is cool. I would go to the Brigewater Bistro while in this area for some great seafood in an upscale ambiance. www.oldoregon.com Have fun! :)

    Pacific City or Newport

There%26#39;s really not much in Pacific City...I%26#39;d be curious to know what you read about it.

Newport is a city of some size; I prefer smaller Yachats, just south of Newport, personally.

But you should also look at Cannon Beach, which has its touristy aspects but also offers much of what you%26#39;re looking for.

Though it has grown significantly over the years, Pacific City (PC) is really just a wide spot in the road when compared to Newport. There is, however, plenty to do in the area of PC if you are into the outdoors (hiking; nature, sight seeing, et al). It%26#39;s a much more scenic area than Newport IMO.

Newport does have all the ammenities you would expect of a tourist town of 8000 people, so it really depends on what you are looking for. Like the previous poster suggests, Yachats might be a good option for you. It%26#39;s small like PC, is located on one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline, and only 25-30 minutes from Newport.

Yeah, I think either Cannon Beach or Yachats best meets your criteria. Newport does have a lot to offer, but might be a little larger than what it sounds like you%26#39;re looking for. Not sure why Astoria%26#39;s being recommended, as it%26#39;s not actually even on the coast. And Seaside is the epitome of Oregon coast touristy.

Regardless of where you choose, don%26#39;t expect to find any of the better Oregon wineries nearby. In my view, the few that are along the coast are just as much a part of the tourist scene as the t-shirt shops.

When are you planning to visit?

I would be curious too how you narrowed it to those two places. They are quite different. I think Newport has the most variety of the beach towns because it has big bay with a harbor with part of town along it. Also has aquarium, Mark Hatfield Marine Science Center, two lighthouses. nice beach.

Perhaps biggest difference is PC is not on 101 so has much less through traffic. Not near as busy.

Astoria also has a lot of variety but away from beach.

Is that the limit of your trip to Oreg? What else you plan to see? That may have some effect on where to be on coast.

Maybe i should put in a plug for Depoe Bay. It is only 12 miles from Newport. may be only town on coast where you can park at edge of 101 right next to the ocean wih no building to block ocean view.

As others have said, far far more to do in Newport! (population about 10,000)

If you decide on Newport, check out both the bayfront and Nye Beach, as both have eclectic individual shops and galleries. The Rogue Ale pub on the bayfront and across the bay in South Beach is a good place to eat and sample some great beers :-)

Another vote for Newport and surrounding region.

Another vote for Newport...and though another mentioned it in passing, I would like to say the Rogue Brewery is arguably one of the top craft breweries in the world!! There are not great walking trails in or near Newport - but there are several nice ones (both rather short) near Yachats if that is your option (not a bad choice at all) and it also has some remarkable scenary as well (though there is a better selection for dining in Newport.)

There is a short trail around the Marine Science Center and also a paved footpath through South Beach State Park, both located on the south side of the bay :-)

    Fourth of July

Our family will be visiting Yachats from BC on the July 4th weekend. Are there generally festivities -- fireworks, etc -- in Yachats, or is it better to travel to Newport or somewhere else nearby?

    Fourth of July

Normally Yachats has a ';Lah Dee Dah'; parade on the 4th - ';typical'; of the town in that the city council are on a float which is (at least the last few times that I recall) a manure spreader pulled by a tractor, with a marching drill team outfitted in rain gear (boots and umbrellas), led by a (seeminly) Marine drill sargent! The fireworks are only so-so, those in Newport are much better...but there are lots of ';personal'; fireworks being set off on the beaches all night long...at least on the beach between Yachats and Waldport. Do check the dates for the fireworks carefully - often Waldport, Newport and Yachats alter their ';display days'; (some may be on the 3rd or 5th).

    Fourth of July

    That%26#39;s great information, thanks. We were planning on heading back to Canada on the fourth, but figured we%26#39;d extend through the holiday and get %26#39;small town Americana.%26#39;

Newport always has a decent fireworks display over the bay on the 4th. Weather will be cool to cold.

Yachats has a smaller display also on the 4th.

Waldport has their fireworks on the 3rd, over the Alsea Bay.

Been that way for at least 20 years ;-)

The La-Di-Da parade is a kick, do make sure to see it!

    Hotels on the 4th July

    Hello

We have been to the States before, but never over a holiday period. We are hoping to travel to Seattle, down the Oregon coast and then up through the middle via Crater Lake and back to Seattle. We plan to arrive around the last week in June and stay for around three weeks.

I don%26#39;t know where we will be over the July 4th weekend, but would you suggest booking a hotel regardless of where we are? We can work out roughly where we will be if you say yes and so book a room.

Also, and forgive the ignorance, does everywhere shut down like it does here in the UK at Christmas? I am thinking about resturants, shops etc?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Alice

    Hotels on the 4th July

Yes- I would definitely book a hotel as soon as possible.

There are all sorts of holiday events all over and a lot of people come from out of town.

I seem to remember a lot of businesses shutting down during the day but restaurants etc were open at night .. gee, it has been 2 years since I lived in Portland ... Enjoy your visit, it is a beautiful part of the world and the people are lovely.. very friendly and helpful :)

    Hotels on the 4th July

I would definitely book in advance for the 4th of July weekend, we will be in Laguna Beach then and I booked our rooms about 3 months ago. Have fun! :)

One would think that if you%26#39;re still on the Oregon Coast during the holiday that it would be business as usual--especially since Independence Day is on a Saturday this year.

I was thinking that staying at the Embarcadero in Newport would be a great place for the 4th, but it seems they%26#39;re already booked.

Here is a lodging report for the coast during that weekend that seems pretty helpful:

    beachconnection.net/news/fjuly062908_153.php

Yes, most businesses shut down for the day except for service-retail: restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, etc.

I bumped into some folks last weekend at a hotel in Astoria, Oregon who were doing something similar to what it appears you%26#39;re planning. They hadn%26#39;t made reservations anywhere, and were a week + into their trip, having a grand time, and not had a problem finding places to stay. I think that generally, you could do the same, but agree with others; best to know you%26#39;ll have a place over the busy July 4 weekend. If you can give us an idea of about where you%26#39;ll be, we can come up with some suggestions.

Laguna Beach? On the Oregon coast? I need to get a new map.

If possible, your best bet would be to plan on being in a city area (Portland, maybe?) for that weekend, as it%26#39;s generally much easier to get reservations in a city over a holiday weekend than in a vacation area. In addition, many vacation destinations such as the coast are likely to have longer minimum stay requirements for the holiday weekend than usual (e.g. 3 night minimum rather than the usual 2).

But in any event, yes, as the other posters have suggested, make a reservation in advance.

Hi Alice (cute screen name!), I live here on the Oregon coast, in the central part, and I will tell you that the 4th July weekend is without question the busiest of the entire year!

    Do book ahead.

If you were to be in the Newport area, you can get a ';two-for-one'; deal . . . the town of Waldport, about 15 miles south, has their fireworks on July 3rd, and then the bigger fireworks are in Newport, on teh 4th. They both shoot them out over each towns%26#39; bay, so it%26#39;s very nice. It *will* be cold watching them in Newport, however ;-)

Most smaller shops are closed, but all restaurants are open. Many ';tourist oriented'; shops will be open, such as gift shops and galleries, that sort of thing.

    Alice,

Everyone has given great advice. From your post, I can say that shops, restaurants, bars and hotels are all open on the 4th of July (in fact, most are open on Christmas too).

If you plan to spend time in a small area (read that not Seattle or Portland) you may already have trouble finding lodging. Especially with a Saturday holiday. I would think that most coastal hotels are already booked, but you just might get lucky. Call ahead though, do not simply show up and think that you will find lodging.

The coast would probably be the most difficult place to find reservations over the Fourth of July weekend.

If you are near Crater Lake, you need to make reservations but you should be able to find something in a nearby town.
